Former CCEC Community Lay Director and friend Jon Randle, Walk 59, passed away August 10. His obituary
is posted here.
Please pray for his wife, Nancy, and the rest of their family.
Gayle Mull, Walk 20, asks that we pray for her brother, Bob Murphy, who underwent surgery for lung
cancer May 15 and is now going through chemotherapy.
Luke Hester, Walk 55, has been diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer that has spread – 2 spots
on his brain. He will begin treatment the week of June 7. To look at him you would not know he is ill. This was
discovered when he had vertigo about 4-5 weeks ago. His doctor decided to do a CT scan to make sure nothing else
was going on. So, from there it went to numerous other tests to this diagnosis. He needs our prayers. Update (7-07-10): Luke finished his radiation treatments on June 28th. He will
"port" implanted in his chest on next Tuesday, 7/13, so that the chemo can start probably the next day. He is
scheduled at this time for 4 - 6 treatments, 3 weeks apart. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Ellie Courvoisier, CCEC Walk 78, died July 5, 2010 from a stroke. She was the first person from her
church, Quail Hollow Presbyterian, to attend the walk and was instrumental in getting an Emmaus following from
her church as well as an active reunion group.
Patience Brumley, CCEC #28, seeks our prayers: Brock is 2 years old, and is my grandson. He was badly
injured by his birth mom when he was only 8 wks old, and he and his 7 year old brother and 5 year old sister
were officially adopted 2/4/10 by my daughter and her husband. Brock has a shunt in his brain, and he was
hospitalized 6 mos ago; shunt was clear & cause of lethargy & vomiting was undetermined. He is in the ER in
Dallas right now and will be admitted. Please pray for a diagnosis and healing. Update (3-17-10): An anxious time, Brock had emergency surgery 3/14 to replace his
shunt and all of the lines going to his abdomen. The 2 hour surgery followed 2 seizures, one of which lasted
6 minutes. Until then, the neuro MDs would not listen to Laura & Todd who were telling them his shunt was
probably blocked. Brock came home Mon night, and although still unsteady on his feet, is doing well. Many
thanks for your prayers. Update (5-16-10): Brock was readmitted to Children's Hospital in Dallas yesterday.
He is now in ICU, has been intubated & medicated to achieve paralysis so he won't move & increase the intercranial
pressure; he has a central line, an arterial line and has an NG tube down too. It may be as simple as a sodium
imbalance OR he may require surgery to reconstruct his skull to accommodate his increasing brain size. Update (5-25-10): Brock is making slow improvement but is too weak to walk. He is
beginning to talk a little bit, and speech and occupational and physical therapies have been ordered. Nothing
has been indicated about when he may be discharged. Update (5-25-10): Brock is better. His is being withdrawn from the heavy drugs
used to treat him in the hospital. He will have brain surgery in September as his brain is too large for his
skull: cranial vault reconstruction.
